Items You Can Check Out
|
The library's collection includes a number of items that you can check out on your library card, including:
- Books (adult, children, teens)
- Special books (large print, religious fiction, new readers)
- Magazines (adult, children, teens)
- Videotapes (adult, children, teens)
- Books on tape
- Music CDs
- CD-ROM programs
- Equipment (VCRs, typewriter, slide projector, loudspeaker, folding chairs, magnifying glasses, Spanish/English translator)
The loan period for most of these materials is two weeks. The exceptions are the adult videotapes, CD-ROM programs, and equipment, all of which can be checked out for a loan period of three days. You may renew any item for two loan periods, unless another patron is waiting for the item.
If you do not find an item you want, please ask a staff person for assistance. The staff works hard to anticipate the needs of our patrons. With our diverse clientele, however, it is impossible to be 100 percent successful. If you need an item we do not have or information on a subject that is not adequately covered in our library, let a staff member know. We have access to materials in other collections (see Interlibrary Loan for more information), or we may decide that it is appropriate to add the item or information to our collection. If the item you are seeking is already in our collection but is currently checked out, we can reserve it for you.
We also have a collection of Red Hot picks--books that are currently best-sellers or in high demand. We keep these Red Hot books separate from the regular collection at the end of the New books section, do not accept reserves on them, and circulate them for one week only. Our goal is to have a quick turn-over so that popular titles will be available for browsing and will be accessible for the greatest number of patrons.
Our Circulation Policy is available online or at the main desk.
