Internet Searching Policy

(effective 11/19/96, reviewed 9/20/99, amended 6/19/00, reviewed 09/18/01, 9/16/02; amended 2/17/03; reveiwed 9/15/03, 9/20/04; amended 1/16/06, reviewed 9/18/06, 9/17/07; amended 9/15/08)

Public access to the Internet using in-house library equipment is available to responsible individuals who are willing to abide by the Acceptable Use policy adopted by the Board of Trustees of the Delphi Public Library.

An individual who requests to use a library computer will be signed in by a library staff member. By requesting a computer, an individual is agreeing to abide by the terms of the posted Acceptable Use and Internet Searching polciies. In addition, library users under the age of 18 must secure the approval of their parents or guardians. The approval form is available in the library and must be signed and witnessed by a library staff member.

When other library users are present and desire access to an Internet computer, an individual using a terminal for 30 minutes or more may be asked to relinquish use of the machine to the next user. In the interest of serving all our users, maximum time allowed each user is limited to two hours per day. Each individual is limited to two hours maximum computer use per day, regardless of how many terminals are used and where they are used. Users with a special need for extra time to complete school or work assignments or projects should make arrangements with library staff.

We suggest that all potential Internet searchers read Children on the Information Highway and The Librarian's Guide to Cyberspace for Parents & Kids available at this library. These brochures contain suggestions for safe Internet searching appropriate for all age levels.

An individual who violates the Acceptable Use agreement the individual has signed will forfeit computer privileges, at a minimum, for the rest of the day. Violations will be determined solely by the Library staff. The Library director may add further suspension and will provide formal notice of the suspension and a means of appeal.
