Internet Safety Policy Parental Approval for Internet Use for Youth under Age 18
To Parents:
Public access to the Internet using in-house library equipment is available to responsible individuals who are willing to abide by the Acceptable Use policy as adopted by the Board of Trustees of the Delphi Public Library.
Prior to each search session, individuals who desire to use the Internet must read the Acceptable Use policy and sign the form indicating they agree to abide by the terms of the Acceptable Use policy. In addition, library users under the age of 18 must have signed approval from their parents or guardians. The approval form is available in the library and must be signed and witnessed by a library staff member. The youth must present this form prior to each search session.
Children under the age of 13 must use one of the Internet computers
in the children's area of the library. Children under the age of
13 are prohibited from using the Internet computers in the adult
area of the library unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian
who remains on the computer with the child.
When other library users are present and desire access to an Internet
terminal, people using a terminal for 30 minutes or more may be
asked to relinquish use of the machine to the next user. In the
interest of serving all our users, maximum time allowed each user
is limited to two hours per day. Each individual is limited to two
hours maximum computer use per day, regardless of how many terminals
are used and where they are used. Users with a special ned for extra
time to complete school or work assignments or projects should make
arrangements with library staff. Youth who are abusive or unruly
or who otherwise violate the Acceptable Use policy will be asked
to leave the building. At a minimum, computer privileges will be
suspended for the rest of the day. Violations will be determined
solely by the library staff.
We suggest that all potential Internet users and their parents read Children on the Information Highway and The Librarian's Guide to Cyberspace for Parents & Kids available at this library. These brochures contain suggestions for safe Internet searching appropriate for all age levels.
I give my permission for ___________________________ to use the Internet computers in the library. Furthermore I understand that the Internet contains a wide array of materials, some of which my family and I may find objectionable. It is my obligation and responsibility, as a parent and guardian, to set standards for the youth for whom I am responsible, to explain my expectations, and to set guidelines for them.
