The Delphi Public Library
offers two laptop computers (Dell Inspiron 6400) for use by patrons
within the library. The computers are loaned out at the Main Circulation
Desk.
In order to use one of the computers, you must be at least 18 years
of age and be able to provide a legal form of identification, such
as a driver’s license, which the library will keep as long
as you have the computer. You must also sign a form accepting financial
responsibility for any damage to or loss of the computer while it
is in your possession.
There is no charge to use the computers, and you are not required
to have a library card. You may, however, check out only one at
a time, and you may use the computer only in the library. The checkout
period is two hours, and no renewals are allowed. If you turn the
computer in late, you will be assessed a fine of $3 per hour. The
checkout time period will count toward the daily two-hour computer
limit for the public access computers.
Loaded on the computers are word processing and spreadsheet software
along with a web browser. Wireless internet access is available
throughout the library building. To use wireless access, you must
ask for a username and password at the Circulation Desk. You are
not permitted to save documents to the laptop’s hard drive
but must use a flash drive or CD to save documents. If you need
assistance, feel free to ask a library staff person. You also are
not permitted to download software or modify settings on the computer,
including the home page setting, the wallpaper, etc. Violators may
lose their library computer privileges.
Printing is not possible from the laptops. If you need to print
a document, you may save it to a flash drive or CD and bring it
to the Circulation or Reference Desk for printing by library staff,
or you may sign into the public access computers and print your
document from one of those computers.
Laptop users are expected to abide by the Acceptable Use policy
adopted by the Board of Trustees of the Delphi Public Library. Prior
to each laptop checkout, you must sign a form indicating that you
agree to abide by the terms of the Acceptable Use policy. An individual
who violates the Acceptable Use agreement will forfeit all computer
privileges, at a minimum, for the rest of the day. Violations will
be determined solely by the library staff. The library director
may add further suspension and will provide formal notice of the
suspension and a means of appeal.
