Wireless Network Access Policy
(Adopted 2/19/07, reviewed 2/18/08)

The Delphi Public Library offers free wireless access (aka "hot spots" and "WiFi") throughout the main building for library patrons to use with their own personal notebooks, laptops, and other mobile devices. These access points are unsecured and accessible only during normal library hours.
As with most public wireless hot spots, the library's wireless connection is not secure. There can be third parties between you and anybody with whom you communicate, and any information transmitted could potentially be intercepted by another wireless user. Cautious and informed wireless users should choose not to transmit personal information (credit card numbers, passwords, and any other sensitive information) while using any wireless hot spot. Please take appropriate precautions when using this service.
The library's wireless network is accessible via username and password. A currently viable username and password will be assigned to you when you request wireless access at the library. These usernames and passwords will change periodically for security purposes, so please be sure to ask at the main desk for the current access information on each visit to the library.
Library staff can provide general information and handouts for connecting your device to the wireless network but cannot troubleshoot problems related to your wireless device or assist in making changes to your device's network settings and/or hardware configuration. The library cannot guarantee that your device will work with the library's wireless access points.
All wireless access users should have up-to-date virus protection on their laptop computers or wireless devices. The library will not be responsible for any information (e.g., credit card) that is compromised or for any damage caused to your hardware or software due to electric surges, security issues, or consequences caused by viruses or hacking. The use of the library's wireless network is entirely at the risk of the user. The library disclaims all liability for loss of confidential information or damages resulting from that loss. The library will not be responsible for laptops or other devices left unattended.
Printing is not available via the wireless connection. If you need to print, please save your work to a disk or flash drive. You may then log into a wired public access computer and print from there, or you may ask a staff member to print a document for you from the reference desk.
All users are expected to use the library's wireless access in a legal and responsible manner, consistent with the educational and informational purposes for which it is provided. A patron's use of this service is also governed by the library's Acceptable Use Policy. This policy is posted at the public access computer stations and is available from any staff member at the main desk.
The library's wireless network has been configured for interactive searches and knowledge gathering on the internet and is not sized for large downloads. If you need to download software or large images, you should use the wired public access computers in the library.
