Garrett
Grand Master Hunter CX-III
Well, let me start by saying that the CX-III has many bells and whistles. I'm
truly amazed at how much thought went into this detector. I was shocked
to find it locating pennies a foot deep and other metal's even deeper.
And as I read earlier in another review, sometimes you think the
detector is "acting up" when it's really finding incredibly deep
targets.
The TARGET ID is easy to use, and seems to hit
accurately most of the time excluding aluminum which often reads
quarters. The detector is light weight and easy to use. It's primary
advantage.. SETTINGS SETTINGS SETTINGS.. you can set it to do almost
anything. It has Treasure Talk which I find interesting at night, I let
the detector tell me what it found. Also, it's NOTCH system of target
ID is a great system in spite of other manufacturers claims of
ineffectiveness. I usually don't use discrimination but still like the
target Id with it's educated guess as to what lies below me.
The
Detector is a fine example of functional gadgetry in it's finest. If
you name it, if it's been done, this unit has it. Now for the negative.
The unit I have is a battery HOG. I have not yet gotten more than 10
hours on a set of batteries. On Cheaper Carbon Batteries, I get only 3
maybe 4 hours. On nicads, I get about 1.5 hours before a recharge in
needed. I talked to Garrett and they deny this unit is a battery hog.
The manual says 30 hours on alkaline's.. I find that's true if you
replace the batteries at least three times... So if you are battery
penny wise, this detector will make you unhappy. I'm waiting for a unit
to be sent from Garrett to me that isn't suppose to be a battery hog.
I've already had two of them and they both eat batteries.
In a
nutshell, If you can afford the batteries, I doubt you'll find another
detector from another manufacturer to top this unit. Charles Garrett
has topped even himself with this unit.
