Great Coin Hunting
Locations
If you know of a good unlisted place to search, please send it in.
Keep a lookout for large trees - oak, elm or anything that might have been
at one time a shade tree. Many times I find a vacant lot with these trees,
and almost always there was at one time a house on the property. As a plus,
since the house is gone you may be able to search without the usual hassle
of asking a neighbor or relative for permission. I have discovered several
sites that are now owned by adjoining businesses and they're open to anyone
who chooses to search. As a plus, you can get a good gauge on the age of
the property by looking at the size of the trees - a large oak means at
least 100 years of habitation.

I find 75+ coins an hour and usually a ring at my latest "hot spot" for coins and rings!!!
1. Go to your local " do it yourself " coin operated car wash.
2. Look for the place where they dump the contents of the 25 cent vacuum cleaners.
3. Search the piles and see what a goldmine they are for coins and rings.

I went to school in the 50s and 60s started collecting
coins in 59 and detecting in 69. school lunch in 1955 {milk money oldpennies} my first coin found
with a whites bfo was a 1909 s vdb in great condition and on the grounds of my first grade
school. Keep hunting and don't always take it for gospel.

Search old farm mail boxes and pasture entrances, lots of coins are lost there.

Around any large tree. People congregated under big shade trees before air
conditioning was common. Also, curbside of any home. While the man was
fumbling to put his keys away and open the female's car door he
occasionally dropped a coin or two in the process. Also, men being who
they are, they often had too much pride to bend down and look though the
grass in front of their date even if they knew they had dropped something!
And, to reitterate a tip given earlier, "UNDER CLOTHES LINES". I have
found great concentrations of silver under old lines, particularly under
lines behind old student or rent-houses. Try it out and tell me how you do.

Sidewalks. I have recently found my oldest coin, an 1888
Indian Head Penny, and my first diamond ring, a large man's
14K gold wedding band with 5 small diamonds, right next to
sidewalks. Sent in by LKFS35A@prodigy.com
I think one of the best over looked spots are flower beds at older
schools (they weren't there when the school was built) I found one that
had lots of silver along the cafeteria. Sent in by nsihock@primenet.com
Try looking at old road side stops. Especially the ones
with a bunch of picnic tables. It turns out that behind my mom's
workplace, the Sweetwater Pawn Shop, there used to be one of these. The
present day pawnshop used to be first an old motel, and later changed
into a restaurant. People would set in the field and rest from long
days of travel, and later would sat under the trees and have a nice
meal. I have recently recovered 3 silver mercury dimes, 1 silver
washington quarter, and about 13 wheat cents from this site alone. Just
keep your eyes peeled. The only thing left to tell it was once a
roadside stop is one lone picnic table in the middle of the field. Sent in by teagued@ns.cococo.net
Look no further than your backyard. I like to Civil War
relic hunt, and was always dreaming about digging relics in other
places. One day to my surpries, I found a un-fired minie ball on my
property. Later I found another one. The backyard has also yielded
many Wheat Cents, but no silver yet. Sent in by teagued@ns.cococo.net

Hill sides-I didn't believe that there were coins there, but I found out there are from children
rolling down them, they can lose all the coins in their pockets when they do.

Middle Schools-middle school students usually pay cash for each lunch they eat, get change,
and go to recess
right after the lunch, look where the kids go in the school yard for recess, that is where the coins
will be.
Vending machines on concrete slabs-perfect place for a coin to hit the slab and roll onto the
grass, also look for
pay phones and parking meters these are A-1 places to look and they only require a minute or 2
to search.
Stores, or where people have money out-the PERFECT place to look, you would think people
have holes in their pockets from looking in these places.
Playgrounds-they may be oversearched, but you are likely to find something, there has to be a
few of them that haven't been searched.
Where the people are-where people are there will be coins lost.
Fair grounds-lots of people in one area, people can easily drop coins where rides are set up and
where there are concession stands.
Beaches-Hands shrink when they get wet from swimming, then they play in the sand and their
rings fall off
Wishing Wells- people may drop a coin on the outside of it while trying to get one out to put in
it.
The local library-you aren't going to find coins there, but it will tell you where to look,
research.
