What is This?

I found this object washed up on the coast
in Southport, NC. It has text on it "DORAY
LAMP CO. CHICAGO - ILL U.S.A.". I'd like to think that it is off some
ship light of some sort, but I don't know.

Visiting my brother during Christmas holiday, he showed me an item which
he recently found using his "shooter".
It's a nickel plated, or heavy gauge tin material badge of some
type...looks like an inverted pyramid...2 1/2 to 3 inches tall and
about 2 inches in width...across the top is engraved "California". It
may have been issued as some form of identification for special drivers,
since the word "Chauffuer" appears as the centerpiece of the badge. At
the lower portion of the badge is a serial number and below that the date
"1930".
He lives and found it in Ft Worth, TX, which makes this California item
of special interest.
Can you help identify? or point me in the right direction to continue
our search?.
Thanks for any help.

Hope you might help me figure out what this is.
I found it in Nashville, TN in a wooded area near a stone well about
4-5" deep. Along with that, I found a lot of square nails, broken
pieces of cast iron pots/pans, and a old horse shoe.
Any help would be apprieciated,
